Welcome...!

Uthango Social Investments is a unique pro-poor development company. It evolved systemically from an award-winning microenterprise development project concluded in 2006.

To date, our initiatives were applauded by Rotary International via a Centennial Award, as well as by MIT (GSW Spain), the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the Bottom-of-the-Pyramid Learning Lab at University of Stellenbosch Business School South Africa, and the Impumelelo Innovation Awards Trust.

We specialize in home-grown socio-economic innovation to promote best practice in sustainable development in Africa. Uthango is often approached to co-design and implement development interventions that match strategic aims of agencies and companies with aspirations of communities. These are often fundamentally different than traditional approaches with relation to aid and charity.

We work in under-resourced areas to alleviate poverty in lasting ways and improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable in society. An emphasis on information poverty sets us apart from many of our respected peers.

Kid on Swing

Uthango has tried and tested solutions for cause advocacy, public diplomacy, the digital difference, microenterprise development, intercultural dialogue, community mental health and most importantly, local infrastructure development. These are presented in the format of manageable projects, based on community demand.

Uthango is based in Cape Town, South Africa. We are registered to act as a public benefit organisation (not-for-profit) with independent auditors and international lawyers Bowman Gilfillin Attorneys.

We welcome you to our world, where we challenge mediocrity and celebrate excellence in development.

Life is made up of small pleasures. Happiness is made up of those tiny successes. The big ones come too infrequently. If you don't have all those zillions of tiny successes, the big ones don't mean anything.
