zameerkat goes live - solving ICT problems for NGOs!

Unique remote ICT management tool launched!
[ By Erna Sittig on 16 September, 2007 ]

It is widely documented that non-government organisations and civil society leaders struggle with 'IT problems' in Africa, and this impacts negatively on efficiency to deliver. A recent study conducted by World Wide Worx, called 'State of ICTs in South Africa's NGO sector', mentions that more than 62% of organisations interviewed outsource their ICT support to an expert, and only 30% of the organisations have the luxury of 'an internal IT person'. The rest relies on manufacturers or vendors to assist with problems.

Uthango is excited to introduce a customised ICT product, zameerkat, to schools, NGOs, religious institutions and clubs in communities across Africa!

With more than 280 scripts, zameerkat is able to scout for problems on a low-end computer thousands of miles away, and remotely fix a technical flaw at the fraction of a call-out charge.

Remote IT management support (RITM) is not a new concept to the international community, but certainly a novel solution for NGOs that often battle with old computers to get the work done. With broadband costs set to drop in Africa, it brings a unique ICT solution to under-resourced civil society agents.
zameerkat

zameerkat is a small executable file that links a team of technical experts directly to the manager of the organisation. It automatically draws up an asset register of the computers on installation and warns of defects; also updating computers (daily!) with latest software patches and virus protection.

There is peace of mind once zameerkat gets busy in your system, as it will take over the troubleshooting - even with simple tasks such as clearing and unjamming the printer que.

Uthango is the owner of zameerkat and distributes it anywhere in Africa, and we invite any corporate partner to sponsor local organisations with high-end technical support at an affordable price...

I didn't fully realize it at the time, but the goal of my life was profoundly molded by this experience -- to help produce, in the next generation, more Mother Teresas and less Hitlers.
