In 2008, the communities living in poverty in Vrygrond and Hillview - close to the Capricorn Business and Technology Park - will find an injection of new development energy into their area, as two non-profit entities get together to build community capacity.

Uthango is proud to announce its association with Capricorn Foundation (best viewed in IE) - and specifically, the establishment of a project office at the prestigious Business and Technology Park in Cape Town. We will soon have office space in the Capricorn Conference Centre, and will be utilizing the five-star meeting facilities for presentations - also about our virtual worlds' strategy! - to South African clients and partners.

The CEO of Capricorn,
Wendy Harthorne
Wendy Hartshorne is an influential executive, also serving on the Cape Regional Chamber of Commerce. Together with the Directors of Uthango, she takes community investment seriously and was also intimately involved in the setting up of the internationally recognized "Cape Town Partnership". Significantly, she is currently completing her MPhil: Development Planning thesis addressing the subject of "Public Private Partnerships as a mechanism of urban renewal". This focus dovetails well with the community development and investment strategies of Uthango.

It is an honor for Uthango to work alongside Capricorn and now respond practically on the community audits that were commissioned by the Foundation and implemented by Uthango in 2006.

The local Ward Councilor for the City of Cape Town, Cllr. Demetri Qually, gave his blessing to the collaboration at a meeting in 2007. It is the intention of the private partners (Uthango/Capricorn) to approach local government to implement a true private/public partnership project in the area in order to increase impact on poverty and unemployment.
