Regions of Operation

The basic UTHANGO philosophy is to empower individuals so that they can determine their own destinies. We believe that it can be done by creating an enterprising attitude during childhood and adolescence, and by unlocking the existing potential of all individuals. Working collaboratively to draw on national expertise, each regional also has unique projects and area-specific initiatives. We are planning to expand into other African countries in 2012.

Eastern Cape Province

Three of the founding Directors of USI were born and raised in the Eastern Cape. We have a special place for development of this vast province that remains under-resourced despite its historical roots to the liberation of all South Africans.

The Eastern Cape is one of the poorest provinces in South Africa and migration is increasing to other (more affluent) areas. The only way to lighten the burden on urban areas to provide for new job seekers annually, is to address the source: lack of opportunity and services at the homefront!

The Northern Cape is a vast province with a real struggle in terms of poverty. We have ventured into this beautiful part of South Africa to identify opportunities for growth and development.

Western Cape Province

Our main operations are from beautiful Cape Town in the Western Cape from where we monitor projects across South Africa. We work in close collaboration with credible local and regional partners to extend existing resources instead of duplicating efforts.

After being based at the Capricorn Business Park, we are are currently 'between offices' and operate virtually with central shared meeting space in the Central Business District.

International

We have an office in Second Life (SL) - an Internet-based 3D virtual world with more than 7 million users. Developed by Linden Lab, SecondLife is a free downloadable client program that enables its users or 'residents' to interact in an immersive evironment with each other.

We use its social network potential as a platform to engage with local and international partners to create relevant solutions for Africa. In addition, we act as consultants to fellow companies, organisations and institutions in Africa to use virtual worlds as part of their engagement strategy.

The real leverage from information in becoming market-led is not in sophisticated systems analysis and data collection techniques - it is in simply working on how people inside the organisation understand the outside world, and consequently how they deal with it.
