Achievements & Some Success Stories

We have been through the grind of very tough lessons in development here in Africa. Uthango continues to achieve measurable success in spite of - or because of (!!) - difficult times. Development apathy, donor fatigue, the global economic crisis and above all, lack of political leadership impact directly on our vision. A shared passion for innovation and development motivates the team and we developed some key assets to overcome barriers. Our Directors venture beyond traditional approaches to implement new models of social investment and social enterprises. Consider reading our company profile under ABOUT US for more on our track-record.

Most of our success stories break new ground in development practices to ensure benefits in communities. We treasure our relationships with individual beneficiaries. People matter most in our company and in our projects. The stories of their lives, and their successes, we acknowledge and celebrate, as these have inspired us...

Northern Cape Retailers complete Business Plans!

We are pleased to report that 92 small retailers based in and around Kimberley successfully completed their training on 20 March 2007!

Thank you to Stephanie Roodt, Hanlie de Villiers and Richard Holloway who facilitated an excellent programme. The business owners are now closer to growing their enterprises systematically.

The participants were recruited with assistance from Umsobomvu Youth Advisory Centre and its provincial office. The beautiful venue at the Adamantia High School has assisted to make the training a memorable experience for all.

We hope to see everyone again soon!
Below is a picture of one of the groups that all received their certificates. Congratulations to all! Please keep in touch....

Choose another USI success story:
Every institution is nothing more than a manifestation of that ancient idea, community. And if that is true, then the success of any organization has infinitely more to do with clarity of shared purpose and principles, and strength of belief in them, than it does with management practices or resources, important as they may be. Without the hearts and minds of people, all assets are just so much inert chemical and mineral material.
